About
The Brave Artists is an organization dedicated to empowering artists to find their voice and live their most creative, authentic life.
What is a Brave Artist? It’s an elusive posture that we strive to uphold and encourage others to as well. Here are some traits common in Brave Artists.
Brave Artists are…
Resilient – we receive feedback and rejections as gifts for improvement
Authentic – we create things that only we can create, in our style
Innovative – we cultivate our own voice and don’t copy, but integrate
Vulnerable – we are willing to experiment and take risks and fail
Curious – we hold an open mind and take a “What if” mentality
Playful – we see creativity as a joyful game
Generous – we see creativity as a gift to ourselves and others
Process-oriented – we value the process over the results
The origin story…
We started the Brave Artists because we believe everyone is an artist, but life often discourages us and gets in the way of our creativity.
Creativity thrives on imperfection, curiosity, and experimentation – but it’s hard when society values perfectionism, compliance, and what’s already been done before. Add the common feelings of being unseen, unheard, and like you’re the weird one, and it’s a wonder anyone makes anything at all.
We’ve seen and experienced what it’s like to transcend all of that BS – and that is where our best work has been created.
And that transformation is powered by connection. Connection to ourselves. Connection to other like-minded people. Connection to our work.
And we can foster those connections when we have a safe space to play, learn, stay curious, and express our messy, authentic selves.
It is these transformative spaces that we seek to share with others in our workshops, in our writing, and in our community.
We hope you’ll be brave and join us.
